In Loving Memory of Tilya Semona Saunders
January 20, 1975 – December 19, 2024
Today, we celebrate the beautiful life and cherished memory of Tilya Semona Saunders, affectionately known as "TeeTee" by her family and friends. Tilya was born on January 20, 1975, in Miami, Florida, to the loving parents Mr. and Mrs. Saunders. She departed this earthly life on December 19, 2024, at Carolina Pine Regional Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and resilience.
Tilya received her education in Miami-Dade public schools, graduating from American Senior High School. Her dedication and hard work led her to a career in security services, where she was admired and respected by her coworkers and friends. Born and raised in Dade-County, she was an unwavering, die-hard Miami Dolphins fan. Tilya’s sense of humor and her vibrant spirit made a lasting impact on her friends from all over the world, especially through a platform like Facebook where she could connect with them in a meaningful way. Even though they may not have shared physical space, her presence in their lives was felt deeply, likely bringing smiles, warmth, and a sense of connection. It’s amazing how someone’s spirit can spread across the globe through laughter and light-heartedness, even without face-to-face interactions.
Her use of the word "Shug" became a trademark of her affection, something that will forever be remembered with love. The way she would greet others with “Shuug!”, “How you doing today, Shug?” That makes the word "Shug" even more special—like a personal, intimate mark of her presence. It was uniquely hers, a part of her that set her apart and made her connections feel warm, personal, and full of affection. When Tilya called someone "Shug," it wasn’t just a word; it was a sign of how deeply she cared and the bond she shared with others. It wasn’t just a greeting, but a part of her spirit and how she brought warmth to the atmosphere. Her signature way of addressing others will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to hear it. Even though we can no longer hear her say "Shug," every time someone uses that word, they’ll remember her humor, warmth, and the special place she held in their lives. Her legacy is now woven into that word, which will forever remind those who knew her of her unique spirit.
Tilya adored her mother, Annie Pearl Owens, "to the moon and back," and shared a deep connection with her family and friends. Her warm smile and compassionate nature will forever be remembered by those who knew her.
Preceding before her death are her father, grandmother, grandfather, step-grandfather, nephew, and five uncles. She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: her devoted mother, Annie Pearl Owens; her two brothers, Anthony Owens and Brandon Owens; her three sisters, Audrey Owens, Taylor Johnson, and Sonia Collins; her grandmother Annie Mae Wingate; three aunts, Theresa Burroughs, Shirley Cobbins (Bernard Cobbins) , and Valerie Walker (Franklin Walker); her uncle Samuel Horton; her nephew, Anthony Owens Jr.; her niece, Shaniya Cobbs; and a host of great aunts, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Though Tilya's time with us was far too short, her impact on our lives will remain everlasting. We celebrate her life and find comfort in knowing she is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
