It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mr. Melvin J. (Blue) Benjamin.
Mr. Benjamin passed away on Wednesday, January 01, 2025 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC.
The family will receive friends at:
3113 Judor Court, Darlington,SC.
Arrangements will be announced by Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day.”
II Timothy 4:6-8
Once more a human spirit has taken flight at the call of the Heavenly Father to the mansion prepared for him from the foundations of the earth by an all wise, loving, all knowing and just God. Mr. Melvin Joseph Benjamin answered his call Wednesday, January 1, 2025 from McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence SC.
Melvin was born December 21, 1952 in Darlington County. He was the son of the late Robert and Carrie Blue. He grew up in a Christian home where the teachings of Jesus were stressed. He received his formal education in the public schools of Darlington County. He was a graduate of Rosenwald High School.
As a young man he attended and became a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church. In his later age, he attended Mt Calvary Holiness Church of Dovesville SC. He enjoyed the spoken word and the dynamic singing at both churches.
He loved the outdoors. He worked as a farmer in his youth and as an adult. His found pleasure in fishing, hunting and lawn work. He also enjoyed buying lottery tickets. Melvin got enormous joy from riding the four-wheeler with his grandkids. He was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and San Francisco Forty-Niners Football fan.
Melvin was preceded in death by: parents, Robert and Carrie Blue; sons, Edward Benjamin and Melvin McCall, and Antonio Brown; sister, Henrietta Benjamin; brother, Elliott Perkins; sister-in-law, Dr. Jessie M. Gandy; and brother-in-law, Louis McCall, Jr.
Those who shared the joys and sorrows of life with him and survive to cherish his memory are: his wife, Elouise Benjamin; daughters, Melvonia (Robert) Fox, Sophia Brown (Hebert Issac); Victoria (Gregory) Brown, Antonette (Leslie) Pinckney, Jamesica (Tommy) Alford, Shaneka (Charles) Byrd, Reneka Brown, Emilie Brown, Shardae Brown, Michelle Brown, and Aaliyah Brown; sons, Michael McCall, Victor (Janina) Brown, and Vincent Brown (Timesha); close grands, Rahkyah Porter, Sa’Maar Marshall, Shymir Brown, Sanaria Brown, La’Miya Jackson, and a host of fifty plus more grandchildren; siblings, Mary Benjamin, Eva Brown, Gloria Blue, Jerry Blue, Tonya Blue, Daphine Tedder, Geneva Benjamin, James Perkins, David Perkins and Earnest Benjamin (Best Friend); aunt, Louella Benjamin; In-laws, Pastor Dr. William (Criscilla) McCall, Pastor Leslie (James) Ford, Larry McCall, Alexander McCall, and Dean Mccall; special niece, LaQuanda Hudson; a host of nieces, nephews, and other close relatives and friends.
Melvin will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Melvin.
