For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Again death has touched our family circle and taken our beloved, jovial, Levern Mack, affectionately known by many as “Teddy”. He departed this life on January 31, 2024, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville, SC. Levern’s strife is over, his battle is done. He is now free of trials and tribulations, pains, suffering and weariness in his life. He is free, resting and enjoying the ever after.
Today, February 6, 2024, we pause to pay tribute and join in Levern’s homegoing celebration. He was a father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. His light will be missed by all he encountered.
Levern (Teddy) Mack was born on June 13, 1950, to the late Murray and Annie Lee Dawson Mack. He was a twin and the eighth of eleven children, five of whom preceded him in death.
Levern was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mary Mack and to their union one child was born, Lolita Shantell Mack Buckman of Hartsville, SC.
Levern grew up in a Christian home in the McBee, SC community. He attended public schools, graduating from Pine Forest High School in 1968. He accepted Christ at an early age. He rededicated his life by confessing Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in April of 2002 and became a faithful member of the Agape Fellowship AME Church where he served as a Trustee, a member of the choir and member of the Sons of Allen, a mentoring organization for young men.
Levern spent most of his working life in manufacturing jobs. He was employed with AO Smith for over 30 years, and he retired in 2016.
Teddy was a joy to be around. He could not suffer in silence or seeing someone look uncomfortable in a social setting. His solution was to use humor and to bring joy and laughter to those around him. In addition to his humor, Levern was known for being an impeccable dresser. He was often referred to as “Mr. GQ” or “the cleanest man in McBee.” Whenever someone used these themes, he would respond with, “Pump me up! Pump me up!” as he chuckled. He just loved making others laugh.
Waiting for Levern’s Heavenly arrival are his aforementioned parents, his brothers: Lacey Charles (LC) Mack. Floyd (BC) Mack, Murray (June) Mack and James (BayBay) Mack and his sister, Gloria Mack Bell.
Surviving to rejoice in his memory and treasure the life he shared includes: his daughter, Lolita Shantell Mack Buckman; twin brother, Levorn Mack of McBee, SC; 4 sisters: Helen Horton of Baltimore, MD, Ruth Ham of Darlington, SC, Brenda Mack of Raleigh, NC and Tearesa Mack of Naperville, IL; a honorary sister, Ann Robinson; 6 grandchildren: Joseph Mack Sr., Demond Mack, Jamaal Mack, Shataisha Mack, Xavier Buckman, and Serenity Buckman, 6 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and very dear friends.
