We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Henry “Sonny” Swinney
Mr. Swinney passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at McLeod Hospice in Florence, SC.
The family will receive friends at: 3928 North Center Road, Hartsville, SC.
Arrangements will be announced by Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.

Mr. Henry “Sonny” Swinney was born in Darlington County on February 25, 1944, a son of the late Eula Graham James and Henry Barrett. He was raised by his grandaddy and grandmother, Vanda and Rosa Lee Swinney as their son. Sonny, as he was affectionately called, was a student at Rosenwald School system in Society Hill, SC.
He was a member of Greenhill Baptist Church. He worked at Nucor Steel for thirty-nine years until his retirement. Sonny’s favorite pastime was working in his yard. He also enjoyed exercising.
He was joined in Holy matrimony to Sallie Adams Swinney and this union was blessed with three children.
“Sonny” was preceded in death by: his sisters; Judy Furlow, Maudie Washington, Evalaia Riley, Leona Budd, Edith Mae Haynesworth, Vivian Smith, Sally Willis, Jeanette Hurst, Thomasina Mosely, Minnie Benjamin, and Eunice Sims; Brothers, Richard Swinney, Willie “Bill” Swinney, Ulysees “Bubba” Swinney, James Swinney, and Bill Graham.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his spouse, Salie Adams Swinney; a loving son Derrick (Chiquinia) Swinney; two devoted daughters Tamika Nicole Swinney and Tarish (Cedric) Montgomery; Sisters, Carolina Mazyck, Gertrude (Eddie) Burns, Alma McPhail, and Annie Mazyck; ten grandchildren; thirty-three grandchildren; A special friend, Ruthphine Graham; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
