In Loving Memory…

“She opens her mouth with wisdom and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”

~Proverbs 21:36

On this day we have assembled at this appointed time to pause and celebrate the life of our beloved Gloria “Huno” McClendon Edwards. All praises and honor are due to our Heavenly Father for allowing a such dear and virtuous woman to bless and enrich the lives of so many. Her spirit shall live on in the many memories shared and we are thankful for the legacy that she has left to continue on in her family.

On Monday, August 12, 2024 an angel quietly descended into the midst and embraced our dear Gloria into the glorious kingdom of the Almighty. May her soul , rest comfortably upon the bosom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“Huno”, as she was lovingly called, was born on April 11, 1935 in Darlington County to the late James and Wincy Blakney McClendon. She received her education in the public schools in the area. At an early age Gloria met the love of her life, the late Enoch Edwards, Sr. The two married in 1958 and to this union 10 kids were raised in a loving Christian home.

Gloria was a true nurturer and her family was always her top priority. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family loved being in her presence and she embraced every moment to be in their midst as well.

Gloria was a lifetime member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She was devoted to being a part of the Senior Choir and United Women of Faith. She always was willing to lend a helping hand in any capacity within the church and with her church family as well.

Gloria was not only an important figure and matriarch of her natural family, but within the church and the community as well. “Mother” as she was affectionately called was a mother to many and embraced many with her warm hugs and words of wisdom. Her charm and wit was also sweet and very unforgettable.

Those preceding her in death other than her parents and husband Enoch Edwards, Sr. and one son, Timothy Tyrone (Crystal) Edwards.

Surviving to cherish her loving memories are her children, Wincy Hawkins-Reed, Steve (Mary “Nora”) Edwards, Leroy (Marilyn Waiters ) Edwards, Enoch (Terry) Edwards, Deborah Edwards, Joyce (Terry) McElveen, Gloria (Bernard)Gilmore; Stanford (Delene”Clara”) Edwards and Donald (Juliette) Edwards; Sister-in-law, Candus Edwards Thomas; Brother-in-law, Jimmy Myers; A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; Special friends, Shirley “Margie” Moses, Sylvia “Sister” Jacobs, Betty Fountain, Mary “Coot” Wilson and Pastor Willie Mae Cannon; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friend.
