Mr. Eugene Capers was born on April 11, 1953, in Darlington County to his parents, Hayes and Viola Capers. He received his primary, junior and senior education in Hartsville at the Catholic School and Butler High School. He was a member of the Varsity basketball team and was recognized as one of the top 100 athletes in the country for the 1970-1971 season.
After graduating in 1971, Eugene moved to Washington, DC. There he worked at Union Carbide for a period before moving on to employment at Amtrak, where he remained until retirement.
He was an avid sports fan, enthusiastically cheering on the Milwaukee Bucks and the Washington Redskins. He loved his family and his church family.
Preceding him in death: his father, Hayes Capers; siblings: Neomia McDuffie, Jannie M. Arthur, and Deborah C. Bennett.
His mother, Viola Capers succeeded him in death on March 6, 2024.
Surviving to cherish his memory: are his siblings: Leroy (Miriam) Capers, Lillie Mae Capers and Dollie Cook, all of Hartsville, SC; nieces: Janelle (Jerome) Graham of Darlington, SC, Angie (Samuel) Gantt of Bloomfield, NJ and Yvonne Coles of Patterson, NJ; nephews: Malik Capers of Hartsville, SC and Jason Capers of Miami, Florida; aunt, Louise Coleman of Bishopville, SC; brother-in-law, Luke Arthur of Hartsville, SC; special devoted friends: Tyrone Toy and Janice Colbert of Washington, DC; special cousin, Gary Capers of Charlotte, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
