We regret to announce the passing of Mrs. Elease Small.
Mrs. Small passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at MUSC in Kershaw.
Arrangements will be announced by Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.
Mrs. Elease Lyde Small was born on September 6, 1924, in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was one of four children born to the
late James and Nannie Rodgers. She departed this life on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
She attended Chesterfield County Schools in McBee, South Carolina.
Elease accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She joined and was baptized at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, McBee, South
Carolina. In 1943 Elease moved to Buffalo, New York where she joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and was a member of the
choir. Later, she moved to Evanston, Illinois. In 1949, she graduated from National Nursing School of Chicago. In 1954, she joined Mt.
Eagle Missionary Baptist Church and there she was a member for twenty-four years. In 1979, she joined The Official Orleans Missionary
Baptist Church (TOOMBC). While at TOOMBC she was President of the Senior Choir for a while. Elease was employed by Bramson
Department Store for 26 years. She enjoyed attending church services, fellowshipping with her family, and friends. In addition, she enjoyed
gardening very much and she attended her garden until she was 98 years old. In October of 2023 she moved to South Carolina with her
granddaughter Kathy Thomas who loving cared for her until her passing.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, James and Nannie Rodgers, her husband Albert Small one sister, Lucille Brown, two
brothers Roy Rodgers, and AV Rodgers: two sons, James Author and Elvoid Rodgers. She leaves to cherish her memories three
grandchildren Kathy Jeanette Thomas of Camden South Carolina, Tiffany (David) Johnson , of Philadelphia Pennsylvania, James
Allen Rodgers, of Philadelphia Pennsylvania, a cousin Schlosburg (Henrietta) Whitaker Jr. , a cousin-in-law Arkie Alexander and a host
of great- grand grandchildren, family, and friends all of whom will miss her dearly. May she rest in peace.
